This broadside was commissioned by a group of students who had been led by history Professor David Henkin of UC Berkeley as their thesis advisor. Henkin’s book, CITY READING Written Words and Public Spaces in Antebellum New York, inspired the students with pictures of antique broadsides. They decided to have a letterpress broadside created as a farewell thank you gift. Each of the names listed as part of Boss Henkin’s Gang is that of one of the students, and the text beneath each name relates to their thesis projects. Since letterpress is typically produced in multiples, an added bonus of this gift was that each of the students received a broadside, too. NFS
