Workspace and
Small Griffin Press
The Griffin Co. intaglio press prints in the opposite way of the Vandercook, which is a relief press. Intaglio, Italian for 'in the cut' means that the image is held in the grooves and crevices of the plate. The printer presses the ink into the crevices and wipes it off the surface. Plate and paper are run through the press under high pressure, which pulls the ink out of the the crevices. Also seen in this picture are the photopolymer platemaker, workbenches, and the corner of the large Griffin press. The colorful custom cabinets in the foreground were designed and built by Alan's Atelje.
