On July 25 artists of all media and experience levels participated in the first in a series of thought-provoking peer discussions for artists hosted by Painted Tongue Community and Subterranean Arthouse.
Each artist brought a sample of their work and discussed a technique that they were excited about. Techniques discussed included solar etchings, mixed media, archival pens, linocuts, scratch art, laser cutting, molding compounds, calligraphy, digital videos, staged photography, digital drawing and more.
If you participated in this event and would like to share more images of your work please do so by adding a link in the comments! If you would like to participate in future events in this series please sign up for our mailing list.
After 12 years of custom design and printing, mostly of wedding invitations, but also of business cards and stationery of all sorts, we are turning the page on a new chapter. We’re shifting our time and energy away from custom orders, and into my true love, fine arts.
Though it’s sad in some ways, because the invitations were very beautiful and attracted many interesting clients, I’m thrilled to be taking this step, which is but one of many in a long journey of self-development.
We accepted our last letterpress contracts in early July of this year, and are in the process of completing them. We are maintaining and expanding the botanical greeting card line that we’ve been building steadily for the past seven years. We do hope that those who have enjoyed our work will support our efforts by purchasing our greeting cards on a regular basis. They can be bought on this web site, on Etsy, and are sold in many stores, particularly on the Coasts. We are also introducing new gift products related to our card line, including a 2014 wall calendar and prints for wall hanging.
For those not familiar with my own artwork, it can be viewed at www.kimvanderheiden.com. I combine letterpress with other print and direct media, such as solar etching, linoleum cuts, painting and drawing. My work reflects my time and place as a mother of three, owner of a letterpress printing business, and a woman raised in Wisconsin, living in California in the 21st Century.
